DreadBall: Marauders Team Tactics

Being a Mantic Pathfinder and a Mantic DreadBall Fanatic, I often get asked about how to play with several DreadBall teams. What tactics they should play, which are their strongest points or just their flaws. What MVP's should we really go with, and how will the team grow in a league? Trying to educate people in a group, I thought I'd write my opinion down for all the teams. So let's meet The Marauders!
Marauders on their way to bloody this pitch!

The Marauders

Everybody loves some orks and goblins. These deviant figures from the fantasy realm have found their place on the pitch. But what do they bring to the game?
For their 100mc, you get one coaching die and a DreadBall Card. With no Strikers we have the following statlines

Mov Str Spd Skl Arm SLu Cst Notes
Guard 5 3+ 4+ 5+ 4+ x3 13mc Orx
Jack 5 5+ 3+ 4+ 4+ x5 9mc Goblin

No Strikers? That will make it harder to score. Certainly when seeing that the Jacks still have a 4+ Skill. Luckily the Orx have a 3+ Strength and the numbers to help! This team knows but one thing, how to bash in the others, and they do it really well!

Let's gettem boys

Orx and Goblins are the second of the starter teams, and a very loved bunch to play with. Only having Jacks and Guards eliminates the need of a fancy tactics. This team boasts a 3 man Guard team with 3+ Strength. That's about all you need to take down any other team (with some exceptions of course..). The only thing you have to worry about is still scoring with them.
Since you're only left with Jacks to handle the ball you will have to make good use of any Coaching dice you have. Try to keep them for scoring. Don't pass with your goblins and remember you don't get bonusses! Because of that, most Marauder players will start brutally using their Orx to target the opponents Strikers. By killing other players you'll gain Fan score, thus getting more Coaching dice! And by mid-way the game, you'll still have time to score. Remember, even winning with one point is winning.

When placing our team, we'll want to be agressive. Be it as Home or the Away team, your Orx will have the mission to stop anyone from entering your half. Spread out your Orx to create as much threat as possible and use the Goblins to help them. Don't forget to keep a model in the back for that 4point zone.
While playing we'll aggressively target the opponent's Strikers, and take vengeance if they would happen to score. Making a Slam in the back of most opponents ends up with them off the field. Certainly in the first few rushes you can spend your actions trying to reduce the number of opposing players. If you knock a model down, don't hesitate to put a Goblin next to it making it harder to recover and moving on to the next target.
As a reminder. Your team is made to bash, not score ^_-

Marauders in a league

Orx and Goblins are great in a league play. Though not the best scorers, your Orx will go up in the ranks quickly. Try to gain 360 vision or increasing your survivability. Since you won't be winning most of the matches don't expect to end up high or have a lot of credits to spend. Don't take this as a standard. More than once Marauders win the match.
If you can go in hard, and score afterwards you've played the Marauders to perfection, but I've yet to see a Marauders team landslide. Luckily your Guards are sturdy and your Jacks cheap. When looking into improving your team, my first upgrades would go to extra cards. Those extra actions can sometimes be the difference between a pushed opponent or a dead opponent, or be that last Hail Mary you needed to score a point.

Marauders and MVP's

This should be clear, because the lack of Strikers, most Marauder Teams will be on the lookout for a Striker to join their ranks. Slippery Joe is their preferred choice. This goblin with "A Safe Pair ofHands", "Jump", "Roll" and a 3+ Skill this is what every Marauder Team wanted! For a bare minimum of costs this can be a real win for your team, though other MVP Strikers will fit in just as great (though not thematically).
Do you like my 'stache?

Overall

Marauders liven up every match. Be it with their brutal way of handling the opponent or the goblins dropping the ball after succesfully dodging 2 opponents. Where luck is a game of dice, the Marauders are a team that cheer when the score, and party when they kill, and trust me they're a happy bunch by the end of the game ^_^
Are you of the straightforward whacking type? Look no further. This team offers new players and veterans alike the needed tools to blooden the pitch and get away with it!
